Performance Coach – Literacy
Susannah Young joins the team at Houston A+ Challenge after serving as an educator and curriculum coach in Cypress Fairbanks ISD. Her education career began in 2011 at the Harmony School of Discovery where she took on the role of teacher and curriculum implementation trainer on her campus. She accepted a position as an elementary and then middle school teacher in Cypress Fairbanks ISD in 2012. In addition to her role as classroom teacher, she implemented numerous initiatives such as an intensive after school tutoring program for at-risk students and a Language Arts and Social Studies hybrid tutoring course for English Language Learners. In 2015, Susannah became a district-level Curriculum Coach. In this role, she supported secondary teachers by implementing instructional technology initiatives, writing academic units for the sixth grade ELAR Department, and leading multiple professional development sessions throughout the school year for all Cypress-Fairbanks middle-school campuses and coaching teams. She has presented instructional methodology to assist all school staff members in teaching and using the balanced literacy workshop model.
Susannah holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, from the University of Houston-Downtown and an M.Ed. in Education Leadership from Lamar University. Susannah is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Literacy Association, the Suburban Houston Association for Bilingual Education, the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts, and the West Houston Area Council of Teachers of English.
