Delving Into Data Decisions
Session One
A Close Eye on Context: Creating an Assessment Picture of the Whole Child
Connect
Read and answer the questions in the adjacent Padlet.
Calibrate
1
Watch the video and read through the handout on right. Think about the current data sources listed in the sample packet to the right and reflect on how many of the sources are umbrella or process based assessments.
2
Choose two pieces of data from the sample packet. Read through the context pathways document. Work through the Big Three questions for each data piece, then find the context pathway that best aligns with each data piece.
3
Think about what makes your data sources good pieces of information to pull from or what makes these sources less than ideal. Write down the steps you took to determine the validity of your data.
Collaborate
Discuss your thoughts on the two sample pieces of data that you chose from the Calibrate section. How could these pieces of data tell you more about the student's needs? How might these pieces of data hinder your ability to determine the student's true ability level? Answer these questions in the adjacent padlet.
Create
Choose two pieces of your own data to evaluate.
Think about the following questions:
-
How could these pieces of data tell you more about the student's needs?
-
How might these pieces of data hinder your ability to determine the student's true ability level?
Answer these questions in the adjacent padlet.
Think about all that you have learned so far in this session.
