Director of Leadership

Sheri is a visionary education and business professional with outstanding qualifications in educational leadership, leadership training, sales and business operations in both education and business markets.  Sheri has an extraordinary education and management background with a documented record of leadership success, business and operational management, and market development.  She is an influential leader with an intrinsic talent for conceptualizing and communicating vision, training and development, and focusing consensus and cohesion for achievement of common goals. Sheri is a passionate educator who is committed to taking a leadership role in revolutionizing the way we deliver education in our schools. She is a former teacher, elementary and secondary school principal, and senior executive with the largest education management organization (EMO) in the United States.

Prior to joining Houston A+ Challenge, Sheri most recently served as Vice President of Educational Services (VPES) for Edison Schools.  Edison, a $425 million company, operates 157 public schools in the US and the UK through district partnerships and charter schools.  As Vice President of Educational Services, her primary focus was to increase student achievement through direct management and supervision of a network of elementary, middle, and high schools in districts across an eight state territory; including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami-Dade, Memphis, and Charleston. This role also encompassed consistent collaboration with district and charter boards, providing national training for principals, and driving consistently superior achievement gains by providing on-going direct coaching and support to principals and leadership teams. Sheri also managed client relationships as well as the operational/financial/budgetary/legal management of the schools she supervised.

Prior to the VPES position, she served as Vice President of Achievement and Vice President of Development at Edison Schools. As Achievement Vice President, Sheri held responsibility for professional development, creating achievement support systems, site-based capacity building, skill training for school leaders, and accelerating and sustaining achievement gains to meet national and state targets. In the Vice President of Development role, Sheri held responsibility for marketing, strategic planning, and district partnerships through the implementation of supplemental educational services programs across her assigned territory.

Sheri began her career as an elementary school teacher where her leadership, administrative skills, and commitment to educational excellence quickly elevated her to the role of an elementary and secondary school principal in traditional public schools. Sheri’s early work experience includes being a Gifted and Talented Coordinator, 21st Century Community Learning Center Coordinator, Reading Trainer, and Director of Academic Services.  She has worked in the Detroit Public School District, Alief Independent School District, Houston Independent School District; and places equal value on her experiences as a charter school principal.

Sheri holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Dillard University, a Masters of School Administration and Mid-Management from Prairie View A&M University, and is currently a candidate to receive a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A & M University. She has received numerous professional awards, including a two-time recipient of the Double Four Star Principal Award; Edison’s highest honor awarded for student achievement improvement and school fiscal/operational management. Sheri also received a “Proclamation of Outstanding Leadership” from the Mayor of the City of Detroit, and the State of Michigan Golden Apple Award presented by John Engler, the Governor of Michigan, to the highest achieving schools for student performance on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program. Sheri is a member of many professional organizations and enjoys the life she shares with her husband and son.
