“Prior preparation prevents poor performances.”
– A truism learned in college
Ann Mayfield is a native of Saginaw, Michigan, where she was the youngest of eight children. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1993 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, but changed careers in 1998 to pursue her first love – educating children. She also earned a Master’s in Education Administration from Prairie View A& M University and holds her Principal Certification. Ann worked in Houston ISD for six years as a secondary math teacher at Johnston Middle School and West Briar Middle School. Prior to entering the Houston A+ Challenge Regional Principal Leadership Academy, Ann was as a math supervisor for Houston ISD’s Alternative Certification Program, where she prepared first-year math teachers for the secondary school classroom. The quote that Ann keeps close to her heart, known as “The Five P’s”, was one she heard her freshman year in college; she now looks to the Regional Principal Leadership Academy for preparation to succeed as a leader of an urban secondary school.
