Houston Independent School District, along with the Houston A+ Challenge, held the second "Reach Out to Dropouts Day" from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2005.
An outgrowth of the "expectation: Graduation" Summit in May 2004, 16 high schools sent teams to speak with students in their homes who did not return at the start of school August 15.
Participating high schools were Austin, Chavez, Davis, Furr, Jones, Kashmere, Lee, Madison, Milby, Sam Houston, Scarborough, Sharpstown, Waltrip, Washington, Westbury, and Worthing..
Houston's first lady Andrea White and Houston ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Abelardo Saavedra will lead the walk.
