In December 2009, Houston A+ Challenge’s
Board of Directors adopted a new strategic plan that will guide our organization’s work over the next several years. At the core of the new plan is a multi-year, multi-district partnership called The Challenge Network
. This ambitious and innovative new strategy, which will be launched in July 2010 in five middle schools, aims to significantly increase the numbers of economically disadvantaged students in the Houston area who are prepared for postsecondary success.
The Challenge Network will be a partnership between Houston A+ Challenge and up to five local school districts. The program is rooted in research indicating that current levels of academic proficiency are insufficient and that higher levels of achievement are needed to prepare students for post-secondary success.
If the Challenge Network achieves its goals and has the powerful impact that we expect, A+ plans to expand the program to many more schools and local districts in the coming years. In fact, we project that the program could well grow to reach 50,000 children in 70 schools within six years – thus transforming the lives of economically disadvantaged students and of our community as a whole.
Keep an eye on our website and
e-communications in the coming weeks for further details about the Challenge Network and other Houston A+ Challenge initiatives.
