Sheri Miller-Williams has joined the Houston A+ Challenge staff as the new Director of Leadership, the Board of Trustees announced today.
Sheri most recently served as Vice President of Educational Services for Edison Schools, assigned to the School District of Philadelphia. During her six-year tenure with Edison, she provided training and supervision for principals and developed programs with partner schools and districts across a 10-state territory. As Edison's Vice President of Achievement, she designed and implemented curriculum, instructional learning, student management and professional development programs for struggling schools in Charleston, South Carolina.
In her new role, Sheri will design, coordinate, and implement training for aspiring principals in Houston A+ Challenge's Regional Principal Leadership Academy and for seated principals and assistant principals in our New Visions in Leadership Academy. Sheri also will serve as the coordinator for Houston A+ Challenge's Regional Senior Fellows Program.
"Sheri Miller-Williams is a visionary educator with outstanding qualifications in leadership training and operations, both in education and in business markets," said Scott Van Beck, Executive Director for Houston A+ Challenge. "Sheri has established a reputation as a 'turnaround specialist,' and she is passionate and committed to helping Houston's school leaders improve teaching and learning for their staffs and students."
Sheri is a Houston native and a graduate of Houston ISD who began her career as an elementary school teacher in 1991. She has served in various instructional and administrative roles in charter schools and in the Detroit Public School District, Houston ISD and Alief ISD -- where she was one of the first graduates of the district's Administrative Internship Program.
Sheri holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Dillard University, a Masters of School Administration and Mid-Management from Prairie View A&M University, and is currently a candidate to receive a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from Texas Southern University.
