With summer fast approaching, now is the time to apply for three high-quality professional development opportunities with Houston A+ Challenge.
We are pleased to announce that application deadlines have been extended for:
REGIONAL PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
This new academy provides rigorous, practicum-based training and coaching support for individuals who aspire to become principals in the Houston region's high-need middle and high schools. Participants will be placed as full-time residents shadowing mentor principals for the 2008-09 school year. Assistant principals, teachers, content coaches, and business and community members with a passion for education leadership are encouraged to apply.
APPLICATION DEADLINE : April 4, 2008
Intensive 14-month program starts: June 16, 2008
2008 TEACHER EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM
This weeklong job shadowing experience places middle and high school teachers in businesses related to their field of study. After Externship Week, teachers receive $800 to $1,000 stipends for submitting work-relevant lesson plans related to their externship experience. Up to 200 teachers may participate in this year's program, thanks to generous sponsorship from Shell Oil Company and other business sponsors.

NEW VISIONS IN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Created specifically for seated principals and assistant principals, this academy has graduated more than 200 school leaders since 1997. Academy participants commit to attending monthly cohort meetings, periodic leadership retreats and full-day events with nationally known authors and researchers. School leaders from throughout the region are encouraged to apply.
