GRANTS FROM HOUSTON ENDOWMENT,
UNITED WAY TO EXPAND A+ INITIATIVES

October 1, 2007

This school year, two new grants will help Houston A+ Challenge expand its efforts to improve school leadership and community engagement in the Houston region.

Through a $300,000 planning grant from the Houston Endowment, Houston A+ Challenge and its partners are developing a regional leadership academy to recruit, train and place highly qualified school principals in high-need schools. Planning and development of the academy and its curriculum will continue through next year, with the intent to begin training new principals in the fall of 2008.

In addition, the United Way has awarded a $30,000 grant to help support Houston A+ Challenge’s public engagement activities. The funding will help provide action labs and school sharing visits aimed at increasing college readiness for all Houston-area students.

Houston A+ Challenge thanks both the Houston Endowment and the United Way for their confidence and support. We look forward to continuing to provide public updates on our progress.
