LIBRARY FOUNDATION PRESIDENT NAMED TO
HOUSTON A+ CHALLENGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Houston Public Library Foundation President Susan Bischoff has been named to the Board of Trustees at Houston A+ Challenge, a 10-year-old, independent nonprofit organization that promotes and funds public school improvement through teacher and leader training.

Ms. Bischoff is a 32-year veteran of the Houston Chronicle. She spent 20 years as a senior editor of the newspaper, and was a member of the Houston Chronicle publisher’s executive management committee from 2000-2006.  In January 2007 she was selected as the first President of the Library Foundation.

As a board member of American Society of Newspaper Editors since 2000, Ms. Bischoff helped implement ASNE’s $5.8 million High School Journalism Project. Ms. Bischoff also directed the 2006 opening of the Chronicle Classroom, a partnership with the Houston Independent School District. She is a member of the ASNE Awards committee and served as a Pulitzer juror in 2004 and 2005.

She currently serves on the boards of AIDS Foundation Houston, Psychology Works and the Board of Visitors of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.  She and her husband, Jim Barlow, have one daughter, Samantha Barlow Martinez, an employment attorney in Houston, and two grandchildren.
