Join Houston A+ Challenge for our ongoing National Speaker Series, when David Conley, Educational Leadership Professor and Director of the University of Oregon's Center for Educational Policy Research, will discuss:
- What does "college readiness" mean for today's students?
- What knowledge and skills are most critical for students to successfully navigate the high school-college transition?
- What can schools and students do to foster and develop college readiness?
This event is free and open to the public. The next day, Mr. Conley will lead a private, day-long workshop for New Visions in Leadership Academy participants and alumni.
David T. Conley, Ph.D., teaches and researches topics including the high school-college transition; standards-based education; systemic school reform; educational governance; and adequacy funding models. He has also developed adequacy-funding models for Oregon, Hawaii, and Washington.
Dr. Conley's most recent publication, Toward a More Comprehensive Conception of College Readiness, commissioned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, gives schools and districts a clear, cohesive definition of college readiness and a helpful roadmap of indicators and ideas to prepare students for success beyond high school.
His other books include: Understanding University Success, College Knowledge, and Who Governs Our Schools?
