HUNDREDS ATTEND TOWN HALL FORUMS
ON THE DROPOUT RATE:
COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS JOIN TO FIND SOLUTIONS
Thanks
to the hundreds of parents, students, educators and
community members who shared their ideas for lowering
the dropout rate at our town hall forums at Aldine,
Austin and Wheatley high schools. Dozens of you visited
our video speakout booth -- many of these interviews are now posted below.
Improving
communication -- between schools and families, and between
students and adults -- was the "big idea"
that came up again and again at all three events. Houston
A+ Challenge will now synthesize your input and present
it as a report to district officials and policymakers.

This
year’s town hall forums are made possible by a
grant from the Public Education Network (PEN), whose
mission is to build public demand and mobilize resources
for quality public education for all children,
especially poor and disadvantaged, through a national
constituency of local education funds and individuals.
